Summer has officially arrived! From cooling sprays to mosquito repellent and hair treatments, there are so many versatile ways to use essential oils during the holiday season.
If you’re looking for some natural essential oil remedies, keep reading as we share 5 of our favourite essential oil blends for summer below!
Essential oils for summer: After-sun care
Wearing sunscreen and staying covered up during summer is essential to avoid damaging our skin. But, if you do find yourself with a mild sunburn, you can use essential oils to create a soothing after-sun care treatment.
For an all-natural sunburn soother, simply fill a spray bottle with half a cup of aloe vera juice, 2 teaspoons of coconut oil and 10 drops of both lavender oil and peppermint oil. Massage gently into the skin for an instant calming effect.
Essential oils for summer: Cooling mist spray
Long days and high temperatures can leave us feeling hot and flustered during the summer months. To help you stay cool during summer, create a soothing mist spray using refreshing essential oils.
To create your own cooling mist spray, simply mix 60mls of filtered water with 12 drops of peppermint oil in a spray bottle. Pop the spray in your handbag, and spritz lightly over your face and body as needed.
Essential oils for summer: Mosquito repellant
The summer season comes hand in hand with an influx of mosquitoes! Instead of using store bought insect repellent sprays (which are often filled with chemicals), try using essential oils to create an all-natural solution.
To make your own natural mosquito repellant, simply mix 350ml of Witch Hazel with 10 drops each of citronella oil, lemongrass oil, peppermint oil and tea tree oil. Shake well to mix, and spritz over your exposed skin to keep the mosquitoes at bay.
Tea tree oil can also be used to soothe mosquito bites, thanks to its anti-swelling and anti-itching properties. Simply dilute with a carrier oil and apply topically to any unwanted bites as needed.
Essential oils for summer: Replenishing hair mask
It’s common for our hair to become dry during summer, especially if you spend a lot of time in the pool or in the ocean. You can use essential oils to create a nourishing hair mask, helping you inject some much-needed moisture into your hair!
Simply mix a tablespoon of coconut oil with a couple of drops of geranium oil and massage gently into the ends of your hair. Leave the mixture for 20 minutes before washing hair out as normal.
Essential oils for summer: Summer fragrance
Finally, get your household in the summer spirit by diffusing a summer-inspired fragrance throughout the home! Start your morning right by adding a few drops each of lavender oil, grapefruit oil, lemon oil and peppermint oil to your essential oil diffuser, and enjoy a beautiful, natural summer fragrance.
