The Best Essential Oils for Summer!

While the summer months mean blue skies and days by the beach, the change of season can also cause havoc to our skin, hair and households.

If you’re looking for some natural remedies to use throughout the warmer season, keep reading as we share our favourite essential oils for summer - from after-sun care to natural mosquito repellants.

Essential oils for summer: cooling mist spray

The sudden change in humidity can definitely leave us feeling hot and flushed during the summer months. A soothing mist spray using essential oils is a great natural remedy to help you instantly refresh and cool your skin on-the-go.

To create your own cooling mist spray, simply mix 60mls of filtered water with 12 drops of peppermint oil in a spray bottle. Take it with you in your handbag and spritz lightly over the face and body as needed!

Essential oils for summer: after-sun care

Summer can often mean longer days enjoying the weather outdoors with family and friends. Wearing sunscreen and staying covered up during the summer months is essential, but don’t forget to replenish your skin with some after-sun care, too.

For an all-natural sunburn soother, simply fill a spray bottle with half a cup of aloe vera juice, 2 teaspoons of coconut oil and 10 drops of both lavender oil and peppermint oil. Massage gently into the skin after too much time in the sun for an instant calming effect.

Essential oils for summer: mosquito repellant

The summer months in Australia can only mean one thing – mozzies! You’ll probably notice an influx of mosquitoes around your household during this season. Instead of turning to chemicals or toxins to keep the insects at bay, essential oils can offer a more natural solution.

To make your own natural mosquito repellant, simply mix 350ml of Witch Hazel with 10 drops each of citronella oil, lemongrass oil, peppermint oil and tea tree oil. Keep your mixture handy in a spray bottle and spritz as needed. And if the mozzies do get you? Tea tree oil is renowned for it’s anti-pain, anti-swelling and anti-itching qualities, so apply this oil topically to soothe any unwanted bites.

Essential oils for summer: replenishing hair mask

After spending too much time in the pool or in the ocean, it’s common to find your hair drying out during summer. Add some much-needed moisture into your hair with a nourishing natural hair mask.

Simply mix a tablespoon of coconut oil with a couple of drops of geranium oil and massage gently into the ends of your hair. Leave in as a treatment for around 20 minutes before washing hair out as normal.
