The Best Natural Remedies for Headaches and Migraines

Best essential oils for headache pain

If you’ve ever struggled with headaches or migraines, you’ll know just how debilitating they can be. Finding pain relief for headaches can sometimes feel impossible – but did you know there are some natural remedies to help?

From essential oils to magnesium supplements and Himalayan salt lamps, keep reading as we run through some of the best natural ways to relieve headache pain.

Essential oils for headaches

Essential oils can be used as an alternate remedy when it comes to easing and soothing headache pain naturally. These natural plant extracts offer a variety of health benefits and have been used in aromatherapy practices for centuries.

Certain essential oils are renowned for their pain relief benefits above others. These include:

There are a few different ways to use essential oils for headache pain relief.

  • Mix a couple of drops with a carrier oil such as coconut oil and massage gently into the temples and across the forehead
  • Add a few drops to a cotton pad or tissue and inhale deeply
  • Add a few drops to a warm bath and soak for 30 minutes

Magnesium for headaches

Headache pain can sometimes be linked to low magnesium levels in our bodies. If your headache is combined with feelings of fatigue, low energy, muscle cramps or nausea, this may be a sign of magnesium deficiency.

To safely raise your magnesium levels and help alleviate ongoing headache pain, try incorporating more magnesium-rich foods like spinach, almonds, avocados and bananas into your diet. Or, create a relaxing bath soak using magnesium flakes.

Himalayan salt lamps for headaches

If your headaches are caused by using electronics like mobile phones, tablets and laptops, you may be reacting to an overexposure of the positive ions generated by these items. Being exposed to positive ions can leave us feeling drained and stressed, along with creating consistent headaches.

Himalayan salt lamps can help to counteract these positive ions, as they naturally produce negative ions – the ions that make you feel refreshed, clear and energised. These are the same ions that are often found by the crashing waves of the ocean, or at the bottom of a waterfall. Consider placing a Himalayan salt lamp in the areas of the home or office where you spend the most time around electronics to help prevent headaches caused by these items.

5 Ways to Live a More Eco-Friendly Lifestyle!

5 ways to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle!

In today’s world, taking steps to protect our environment has become more important than ever. And the truth is, living an eco-friendly lifestyle is much easier than you might think!

Here at Inspire Me Naturally, we are big believers in reducing waste and minimising our carbon footprint on the earth. One of the best places to start? By making a few simple changes at home, and looking for eco-friendly alternatives where possible to some of our most commonly used products.

If you’re currently looking to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle, keep reading for 5 ways to get started.

Swap plastic bags for reusable produce bags

Did you know that an estimated 3.76 billion plastic bags are contributed to landfill each year in Australia? With many Australian supermarkets putting a ban on plastic bags from the 1st of July, there has never been a better time to make the switch to reusable alternatives.

Our reusable cotton produce bags are not only environmentally friendly, but also help your goods stay fresh for longer. We also love our convenient Trolley Buddy shopping bags, made from recycled materials and including a thermal insulation pocket to keep your groceries cool!

Make the switch to reusable coffee pods

Australians use billions of coffee pods daily, with the traditional aluminium and plastic pods taking anywhere between 150-500 years to break down in landfill.

One way to help reduce this waste is to make the switch to reusable coffee pods instead. Our reusable coffee capsules are designed for lifetime use, allowing you to enjoy your morning brew each day without contributing to landfill.

Go bamboo

Bamboo is one of the most sustainable materials on the planet, and these days there are so many great eco-friendly bamboo products available for some of our most common household items.

From bamboo toothbrushes to bamboo cutlery and even bamboo phone speakers, take a moment to think about where you may be able to reduce plastic by choosing bamboo.

Use a travel cup

Australians throw out over 3 billion coffee cups and lids each year, making them one of the biggest contributors to landfill.

With the war on waste becoming more important than ever, reusable travel cups are now being embraced as a smarter, eco-friendly alternative. You’ll also find most cafes offer discounted coffee pricing in return. Our bamboo eco travel cups are made with natural bamboo fibre and are environmentally responsible & reusable.

Say no to bottled water

Although it may seem convenient to buy plastic bottles of water on the go, it’s much friendlier on the environment (and your wallet!) to fill up a reusable drink bottle from home for everyday use. BPA-free or stainless steel reusable drink bottles are a better alternative for regular use, and are also free from harmful plastics.

Here at Inspire Me Naturally we are proud to stock a great range of eco-friendly products – you can check out our Healthy Kitchen, Healthy Home and Healthy Bathroom collections online, with AfterPay available. We’ve also made a commitment to using eco-friendly packaging for all purchases!

How to use essential oils for hair health!

essential oils for hair health

When you think about it, we really do put our hair through an awful lot. From blow drying and straightening, to the constant use of styling products and sprays, it’s easy to see how our hair follicles can become dry, damaged and irritated over time!

Just like the products we use on our skin and put into our bodies, we should also be mindful of the products we use for our hair. Unfortunately, many common hair products are loaded with synthetic chemicals that could end up causing more harm than good.

We are huge advocates for looking at healthier alternatives wherever possible, and when it comes to hair care we can’t go past essential oils! Essential oils are 100% natural, and certain oils are also rich with properties that can improve the quality of our hair – from moisturising to stimulating hair growth and even treating dandruff!

Which essential oils are best for hair growth?

If you struggle to grow out your hair and want to speed up the process, the following essential oils are known for their stimulating properties:

Which essential oils are best for hair damage?

Are you dealing with split ends, dry follicles or brittle colour damage? The best essential oils for you will be those that are highly nourishing, in order to penetrate and moisturise your hair from deep within, such as:

Which essential oils are best for treating dandruff?

Flaky, itchy dandruff can be seriously irritating. You’ll want to use soothing oils to calm and disinfect your scalp, like:

How to use essential oils safely for hair health:

If you decide to introduce essential oils into your hair care routine, it’s important to choose high-quality oils (like doTERRA oils) that are 100% pure.

Essential oils can be potent, so you don’t want to apply them directly to your hair or scalp as this could cause irritation. Instead, you should always dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil like coconut oil before application.

Here are just a few ways you can easily implement essential oils into your everyday routine:

  • Dilute a few drops of your chosen essential oil with some coconut oil, and massage into your hair from the scalp down to the roots. Leave in as a treatment for 15-30 minutes, before washing hair as normal.

  • Add a couple of drops of your chosen essential oil to your bottle of shampoo and conditioner (we love coconut oil shampoo and conditioner!)

  • Dilute 3 drops of your chosen essential oil with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, and use this as a hair rinse after washing.

Essential oils really are an amazing addition to your hair care routine, once you know which oils are best suited and how to use them. Just keep the above tips in mind and you’ll be well on your way to healthy, happy hair – the natural way!
